A down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a house-hold name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who redefined the animated musical film with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty And The Beast” and “Aladdin.” Charming, tuneful and hilarious, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, “Little Shop Of Horrors” never fails to entertain.

Main Stage:

New Years Eve

Enjoy great food; dancing; and Jerry Herman's award-winning musical, MAME; at the Davis Musical Theatre Company’s New Year’s Eve gala, at 8 p.m., Sunday, December 31, at the DMTC’s Hoblit Performing Arts Center, 607 Pena Drive, Davis.

The $40-per-person entertainment package includes the musical show, dancing to a live DJ, and a buffet dinner catered by Ludy's Main Street Barbecue of Woodland, featuring tri-tip beef, chicken, a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings, Pasta Alfredo, Pasta Marinara, salad, and rolls; plus, champagne, sparkling cider, and dessert.

Who is MAME? Some of Mame's wild, adventurous spirit is inside everyone who lives for the moment and believes that "life is a banquet!"  It's the height of the 1920s, and Auntie Mame becomes the guardian for her 10-year-old nephew, Patrick.

Songs include “Mame,” “It's Today,” “Open a New Window,”  “If He Walked into My Life,” “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Bosom Buddies,” and “That's How Young I Feel.”  Mame’s life is turned up-side-down, many of her priorities change, but she still lives life to the fullest.

Join the DMTC cast and crew on New Year's Eve, as this event is always a sell-out!

Spotlight Artist: Julia Othmer

“A piano-playing siren making a mark with her fiery, passionate performances,” Julia Othmer rocks and radiates. Adding overtones of rock and jazz to a delicious base of soulful pop, her intimate, yet universally appealing, tunes engage audiences with their raw and earthy magnetism. Julia recorded her first songs in San Francisco with Myron Dove (previously of Santana). The first of these tunes, "Mission Control," was selected to be the theme song for the new Vision Video game, SpaceStation:SIM. "Mission Control" also won "Best Rock Song" in a Philadelphia-based demo review hosted by NARAS and “Honorable Mention” in the Billboard World Song Contest. From her “homebases” in Philadelphia, Kansas City, and most recently, West Hollywood, Julia has garnered a fast-growing fan base through regional touring at such venues as Philadelphia's World Cafe Live, the TLA, Tin Angel, the Point and Grape Street, New York City's Cutting Room, Bitter End and Fez Under Time Cafe. Julia was named "Artist of the Week" on HitQuarters.com and nominated at the Philly Music Awards for "Best Female Entertainer," "Best Female Vocalist," and "Best Keyboardist." She has shared the stage with a range of artists including John Waite, Amos Lee, The Duhks, Regina Spektor, eastmountainsouth, Rich Price, and jazz greats Bobby Watson and Ida McBeth. Julia recently completed her debut album, “oasis motel,” in Los Angeles with producer Michael Blum (Madonna, Roger Daltrey, Suicidal Tendencies). An amazing array of musicians joined her including Johnny Griparic (Carole King), Herman Jackson (Stevie Wonder, Outkast), Matt Laug (Alanis Morissette, Slash’s Snakepit), and Dean Pleasants (Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves). It was independently released in February 2006.
